Preamble

Highland Flies has been exclusively a custom-tying operation since its incorporation in 1972. It ties flies for almost every country in which fly-fishing takes place. The range of patterns is huge so it does not have a catalog or a standard price list. Similarly, it does not carry flies in inventory, and ties only to order.

Orders

Orders will be acknowledged by E-mail. For orders from new customers, or for new patterns for existing customers, two good samples and/or an accurate detailed specification (recipe) are required. If requested, and if time permits, counter-samples will be forwarded for approval before production is commenced.

Hooks

Highland Flies carries an inventory of all the most popular patterns and sizes of Tiemco, Daiichi, Kamasan, Gamakatsu, Mustad, VMC and Patridge hooks. Customers are invited to express their preference but Highland Flies reserves the right to use the nearest equivalent if the particular hook is not in inventory and cannot be obtained within the time-frame of the order.

Materials

Highland Flies carries by far the widest range of materials in inventory, in the trade. But it is not possible for it to stock every known material. If an order calls for a material which is not in inventory, Highland Flies will ask the customer to supply either the material or a source for procuring it, or to authorise a substitute material.

Lead-time

Delivery by a certain date cannot be guaranteed. Highland Flies will do its best to complete all orders in full and on time. Customers release Highland Flies from any liability in this connection. In the event that demand exceeds scheduled capacity priority given to (a) Customers who have provided the longest lead-time, and (b) Customers with a record of prompt remittances.

Minimums

There is no specific minimum size of order, but Highland Flies reserves the right to charge a surcharge or refuse for orders for less than 10 dozen per size.

Shipping

Highland Flies aims to ship an appropriate number of days ahead of the required delivery date, by air freight, courier or air post. Highland Flies will use the least expensive of these methods unless the customer has expressed preference. Shipment will be on Ex-Works (EXW) terms.

Claims

Highland Flies allows 21 days from date of Invoice (date of dispatch) for receipt of any claims for shortages or non-delivery, after which no such claims will be entertained. In the case of shortages full details must be provided, including the condition of the outer carton on delivery in case it has been damaged or opened in transit, which affects any insurance claim. Copy of Invoice or Airway Bill is airmailed or faxed on day of dispatch so that customer knows when to expect delivery.

Returns

If a customer wishes to return flies he must request authorization in advance, stating the reasons in detail, within 10 days of receipt of them. Highland Flies values its reputation for quality, and wishes to keep all its customers satisfied, but reserves the right to refuse to accept returns if it considers the customer’s reasons to be unacceptable to Highland Flies, or if, in its opinion the flies are within reasonable commercial tolerance of the samples/recipes provided by the customer.

Prices

Highland Flies prices each fly pattern according to the materials involved, the estimated tying time, the expertise required of the tyer, and the quantity of the pattern ordered. All prices are Ex-Factory Sri Lanka. Prices are either in the currency of the customer, US$ or S$ as preferred by the customer.

Duties

All import duties are the responsibility of the customer. Highland Flies will provide, to the best of its ability, all documents necessary for importation and customs clearance.

Payment

Payment terms are as negotiated with each customer. A finance and administrative charge of 1% per month or part thereof of the balance due will be added if payment exceeds 30 days. Returned checks are subject to a fee to be reimbursed. The property in the flies covered by each invoice passes from Highland Flies to the customer only when Highland Flies receives payment in accordance with agreed terms.

Packing

Our normal bulk packing is in standard firm cardboard boxes. For dry flies one pattern/size is packed loosely in this box, the number of dozens per box being dictated by the bulkiness of the pattern/size so that they are not crushed. Wet flies, nymphs and lures are packed in one dozens in transparent poly envelopes, so that they don’t tangle, and the poly envelopes are then packed in similar cardboard boxes. All boxes are clearly labelled with pattern, size and quantity. If required, dry flies can be packed separately in dozens in collapsible cardboard boxes or transparent plastic boxes, subject to a small surcharge.

Obligations

Highland Flies reserves the right to refuse to supply any customer, at its discretion, and shall be under no obligation to give reasons for its refusal to do or continue to do business with any customer wishing to trade with Highland Flies, whether an order has been acknowledged or not.
